Welcome to the 2018-19 school year!
My name is Cara Birmingham and I want to thank you for the opportunity to teach your son/daughter this year. I will be teaching US History and World History. Please see detailed information about each class on the tabs above.
I have a degree in psychology, a Social Science credential, a health authorization, an ELL(English Language Learner) authorization, and my formal special education training. I started substitute teaching in the district in 1988. I completed my student teaching at Livingston High School during the 1990-91 school year. I taught for two years at a school for the severely handicapped. I was hired to teach at Golden Valley the first year it opened in 1994. Since then I have worn many hats. I started the severely handicapped class, taught resource classes, Geography/Health, World History, World History Advanced, Government/Econ, and AP European History. I coached softball, served as a department chair, instructional coach, technology leader, and the advisor for the Leo Club.
I'm passionate about teaching, meeting kids where they are, and moving them to the next level. I promise you and your kids that I will work hard for them. I want to provide opportunities for your kids to learn/model "soft skills" as well as history content. Soft skills include attitude, communication, creative thinking, work ethic, teamwork, networking, decision making, positivity, time management, motivation, flexibility, problem-solving, critical thinking, and conflict resolution. I want your kids to have fun and above all else I want them to understand their role in society and how important they are.
Three ideas create the backbone of my classes: 1. knowledge is power and 2. what kind of legacy will you leave? 3. Be kind, be kind, be kind
